NE Nevada, March 2017

Kathy and I drove down to see my parents as they wintered in SE Arizona.  We spent a few days there and got to see some sites (e.g. Tombstone, Sierra Vista, Tubac, Bisbee, and Wilcox).

We then drove up to Mesquite Nevada (about 1 1/2 hours NE of Vegas).  Where we met up with some of the Silver folks.  Ted has come down to this area for several years (as his in-laws have a home there).  And he invited everyone down this year.

First off, let me say I have NEVER done anything even close to this level of Extreme Mountain Biking...and my 1995 Cannondale was well below par for this adventure (not to mention the rider).

Anyway, we did some epic climbing - imagine rock staircases, long 5+ mile gravel road climbs, speedy descents, both on gravel road and more of the rock staircase variety.  Not to mention the shear 100+ ft. cliff drop-offs on one side or the other often times.

Needless to say, I "white-knuckled" it most of the rides.

We did stop, so I got some nice pictures.

 Ted on the trail.

 To prove I was there...

We went hiking in Snow Canyon one windy day.  Beautiful!

Next time, I'm bringing a better bike.

Sweets for the sweets.

After a nice supper, we had to stop by Everleigh's (and Mommy's) favorite...ColdStone.

Getting bigger and more fun each day.

Gideon is getting bigger and doing so many new things these days.

Now he can yell at me...

A day to remember

Steve's father Dale passed late last week and the funeral was Sunday in Austin.

Along with Kathy and I, several Silver Cycling members were there to show support for our leader and his family.

Thanks for making the trip: Ted, Lisa, Rob, Becca, Pete, and Tim.

I never met Dale, but Steve carries on with an attitude and positive outlook that no doubt was passed down from father to son.  It was clear by the stories and discussions, that Dale enjoyed people, life, and laughter.  And he wanted everyone around him to join in the fun.

After 94 years of Dale, the world will be a bit more somber.

Rest in Peace,

I'm sure heaven is brighter.
